In this episode Tom Lee talks with one of the co-inventors of the Maple system, Dr. Keith Geddes, about some of the design challenges and computational limitations that he and others faced during the early development of Maple nearly 25 years ago; Eithne Murray discusses some great new features in Maple 10 including palettes, the 2-D editor, context menus, and tables; in addition we have the regular science and math news segment, and we'll wade through our mailbox and read some questions or comments from listeners.

- May 17th, 2006 - Episode 2: Building Blocks of Space
On this program Tom Lee interviews Dr. Dick Gran about designing fail-safe systems for the lunar module and other components of the Apollo space program ; how our use of math has changed with the newest generation computers and software; and his first thoughts about using Maplesoft's new product BlockBuilder. During his rich career Dr. Gran has led many scientific teams for the U.S. aerospace industry and was the Director of Advanced Concepts at Northrop-Grumman. Maplesoft product director Paul Goossens gives a detailed look at Blockbuilder for Simulink(R), Maplesoft's new product for advanced simulation model generation ; and we dish out some of the latest math news as well as answer some more email questions.

In this episode Tom Lee interviews Dr. John Kenelly about the standardized placement testing for incoming college students, about the new partnership between the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) and Maplesoft to produce fully automated and statistically rigorous placement tests; and how computers and software like Maple and Maple T.A. have changed the way we learn and do mathematics. Dr. Kenelly is a professor at Clemson University and is the treasurer of the MAA . Eithne Murray drops by again to talk about help and tutorial resources in Maple; we also have some math news and then provide some answers to questions received in our mailbox.
