Clickable Math: Smart Popups
Clickable Math techniques provide easy-to-use tools within Maple for step-by-step, interactive mathematical problem-solving.
This document provides information and examples using smart popups for simple mathematical problem-solving.
Description
Examples
Smart Popups are interactive popup options that are automatically displayed in the Context Panel for certain types of expressions, such a trigonometric equations. They give options for manipulating your selection, such as plotting, expanding, factoring, or substituting trigonometric expressions.
Example 1: Solve a trigonometric identity using smart popups:
Show 1−cos2θ=2sinθ2.
Input the expression for the left-hand side.
Tip: Find θ in the Greek palette, or type theta and use symbol completion.
1−cos2θ
Smart popups, if any, are shown at the top of the Context Panel. Each smart popup shows a preview of the result.
Select expand. The result is returned to the worksheet.
From the smart popups for this output, select simplify.
The result is returned to the worksheet. The identity has been verified.
Example 2: Apply a trig identity using smart popups
Apply the double angle identity for sin2θ.
Input the expression sin2θ.
sin2θ
Smart popups are shown at the top of the Context Panel. Hover your pointer over Trig Identities to see a list of identities.
Select 2sinθcosθ. The result is returned to the worksheet.
Example 3: Produce a 3-D plot for an expression using smart popups:
Input the expression cos110xy.
cos110xy
Smart popups are shown at the top of the Context Panel.
Select 3D Plot from the available choices. The result is returned to the worksheet.
