Maple for Minnesota High Schools

Minnesota State Colleges and Universities have negotiated with Maplesoft, the creators of the mathematical software Maple, to arrange for free licenses of Maple for state high schools.

Maple is an important tool for teachers and students learning mathematics. It lets educators and students explore, visualize, and solve mathematical problems, providing greater understanding of the mathematics. Maple is used extensively throughout Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, so introducing Maple to your students will also give them a head start on the next phase of their education.

Each school is entitled to a 5-user floating license of Maple. This license can be shared by more than 5 people at the school, with a maximum of 5 people using it at any one time. If, for some reason, you cannot arrange for software to be installed on the school network, up to 5 single user licenses/school are available to individual teachers, as an alternative. To obtain Maple, click on the button below and fill in the order form.

Watch a Webinar
Maplesoft held a special webinar for high school teachers to introduce the uses of Maple in the high school classroom.

Bringing Excitement and Relevance to the High School Math Classroom
The dream of every math teacher is to hear their kids say, "Wow, that's neat!" Maple is a delightful tool that can help you live this dream more often, even for kids who are not naturally good at math. In this presentation, Dr. Jason Schattman will show how he uses Maple's 2-D and 3-D graphics to teach kids the beautiful visual connections between the topics they've already learned, to help them learn new concepts at all levels, and finally, to give kids an enticing foretaste of the math they will see in college. He will also show you how to save time during your preparation period by using Maple to make worksheets, handouts and quizzes.

About the Presenter: Jason Schattman got his Ph.D. in math from Rutgers University and worked at Maplesoft for several years before switching to the exciting and challenging world of high school teaching. He teaches math and computer science at Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary School in Waterloo, Canada, where he lives with his wife, three daughters, and their dog, Pythagoras.
