A Fresh Look At Symbolic and Numeric Computation

Maplesoft
September 2, 2008: 2:00 PM - 3:51 PM (UTC -04:00) Eastern Daylight Time Related Products

What is the modern definition of symbolic computing? What are the critical differences between symbolic and numeric computation? How can respective advantages be exploited to solve more complex problems? What is the future of symbolic and numeric computations? This Webinar explores these and other issues that comprise the very heart of mathematical computing technology. Although Maplesoft is renowned for its symbolic capabilities, it has made major contributions to the evolution of numeric computations as well.

Starting with Maple 6 in 1999, Maple’s numeric abilities have systematically and dramatically improved and now compare very well to leading dedicated numerical software. Recently, significant R&D has been directed to coordinating symbolic and numeric tools to accelerate and improve the modeling and simulation process. New products like MapleSim enjoy a much greater level of integration between the technologies and offers substantial advantages to the traditional numerics-only modeling systems.

This Webinar will be a survey of the major techniques and directions on mathematical computation and offer fresh perspectives. The presenter, Dr. Tom Lee, is Maplesoft’s Chief Evangelist. He has been with Maplesoft since 1989.
